GMIT Students’ Union in conjunction with COPE Galway, organised a Shoe Box Appeal in December. The appeal was open to staff, students and the public asking for their donations to help support the homelessness crisis in Galway.
Donations for the appeal consisted of shoeboxes, food, clothing, duvets, pillows, and Christmas presents.
They also donated a cheque of €650 to COPE Galway, raised from their annual GMITSU Kiddies Christmas party. They also received some cash donations by staff in GMIT.
COPE Galway quoted;
“Your faith in COPE Galway allows us to nurture confidence in others, especially those who’ve hit rock bottom and have nowhere to turn. These include not only individuals, but increasingly families and children who are struggling now to keep a roof over their heads – and to retain their dignity and independence through the toughest of circumstances.”
GMIT Students’ Union would like to thank the students, staff and public for their moving generosity.
